How did you attract/address your audience?

Advertising
We designed a poster for our film that we thought would attract our target audience of teenagers, we showed somebody the poster and asked "Would you go and watch this film?" and the person replied "Yes i would, it looks gory." We made sure that the poster reflected the contents of the movie, for example blood and gore, and this has worked as we found out from the answer that was given by the person we asked. We also used the font as a way to let the audience know what genre the film is, the font as creepy and is a type that would be seen as being used for something horror related in order to scare people. As soon as the audience see's this poster they immediately know that the film is a horror, because the poster reflects the codes and conventions of the horror genre:
-blood, gore the colour red - Horror movies are associated with gory-ness and dark creepy colours such as red, if the colours yellow and pink were on the poster then it wouldn't be within the conventions of a horror movie and the audience would be led to think that maybe the film was a romance or a comedy rather than a horror, so we made sure to stick to the dark creepy colours so as not to mis-lead the audience.
-black background and pictures - Again keeping to the dark colours that are associated with horror, we had the background as being black, otherwise the poster would look to bright and it would take away the idea of fear from the poster, and the picture featured in the title 'voices' are in black and white, otherwise the colours green, brown and blue would be present on the poster and these colours aren't usually used in horror advertising.
-look of fear in the characters face - This is the character that the audience are going to be feeling sorry for and relating their own experiences to, so if we had her looking happy on the poster then they would assume that she is happy throughout the whole film, but having her looking scared and alone causes the audience to wonder what made her feel like that. They then want to know, and so they might consider going to watch the movie with the hope of finding out and being interested in how she solves it or what happens to her.
- a title consisting of only one word - Horror movie Titles are generally short and to the point as so not to give much away about the movie and keep the audience in suspense or to make the movie seem dramatic, most horror movie title are one or two words long, for example The Grudge (2 words) , Scream (1), Psycho (1), Alien (1), The exorcist (2) , Halloween (1). But some horrors have longer titles but in my opinion it takes away some of the fear and mystery from my first thought of the movie e.g invasion of the body snatchers (5), to me this sounds as though it could be a comedy with a horror feel to it, i wouldn't be able to take it very seriously, i would prefer the title to be shorter : Body snatchers/the invasion.
So we chose 'voices' to be our title, as it tells the audience that 'voices' are a main part of the film, lengthening it would make it less interesting and appealing in terms of horror e.g "The voices that Jenny hears" or "The voices that are heard" it is much better to just be "Voices".

Gender
Our horror film could appeal to both genders, as it contains characters that are both male and female, with the male being the antagonist (Joe) and the female characters being the protagonists (Jenny and Olivia) and in watching this film all of the male members of the audience would be interested in why the antagonists wants to kill, and a few of them might enjoy that he is killing people, and the female members of the audience would feel sorry for the girl characters and don't want anything bad to happen to them, and want them to survive. This film would go to the cinema before film, because then it will get more publicity and more people will be able see the film and decide whether they like it or not and then have the choice to buy it on DVD , but if the movie went straight to DVD then people are less likely to buy it because they don't know if the movie is any good or not and they don't want to waste their money. So movies that go straight to DVD tend not to do so well. We would have a target audience age range of 15 - 18. This is an age group that would be the most interested in the film and would be able to understand all of the events that take place in the film, whereas a younger age range wouldn't be able to follow the storyline and an older age group wouldn't be as interested in the plot.

What actors would I want to star in my film?
Sarah Michelle Gellar would play Olivia

I think she would be the ideal actress to play Olivia in our film because she has had a lot of experience of acting in horror movies, such as The Grudge and The grudge 2 and The Return, In The Return she plays a character who has nightmares of a murder that occurred 15 years ago, that is similar to what Olivia has to endure in our film, she has a nightmare about what is happening to her friend Jenny, as that is happening and Olivia can see these events happening as she is asleep. So with having done something similar and being an experienced actress i would choose her as the role of Olivia.

Craig Roberts would play Joe

He isn't a well known actor, but i think he has the looks to act in a horror film such as our one, he is the right age for the target audience, so they would be able to relate to him, his looks also give a sense of creepiness, with his hair being dark and his face being very pale, i think he could convincingly act as a psychopath who is possessed by the voices.

Rachel McAdams would play Jenny

She has starred in a Wes Craven film, Red Eye in which she is kidnapped by a stranger and is threatened by him. The film is a thriller, but i think that her experience from playing a character in that situation could prove as an advantage to playing the part that she would have in our film. Jenny is at her friends house and goes out into the garden and then is chased and killed by a stranger, so both 'Red Eye' and 'Voices' have the similarities that the main antagonist is a stranger.

Director would be Christopher Nolan

He has directed films such as The Dark Knight, The Prestige and Inception, these are all films that are 'dark' and have  'psychological' elements, that play with the characters mind, especially in Inception. So i think he would be an ideal director for our film because he would have a lot of knowledge and experience in portraying mind games into a film, and he would know what to say to the actors so that they are able to act as thought their mind is being messed with.
